Procrastination

Procrastination is a weird thing I think for artist. Recently I spent months, setting up a still life.
I have to admit I think it took me so long because of the subject matter. Something dear to my heart. I toned the canvas finally and started to draw it out, lifting out the lights, putting in more dark area, etc. Putting in a lot of hours, on this step alone. Then it sat. And sat. And sat. I was checking on it every other day, making sure all was well, but still procrastinating. Until this past weekend. I lifted up my loaded brush, full of paint and stopped dead. This was all wrong.
I hated it. Not enough feeling in the piece, lighting not what I was looking for. So, down comes the still life, canvas now in the corner waiting to be sanded again, and I start again. This time a much better selection. Different subject matter. All is flowing along well and I feel great about this piece. So in this instance, I should of listened to my inter self and quit the first painting long ago instead of forcing it out. Thank you procrastination, for without you I would of put in a billion hours and something that really wouldn't be enjoyable.

Salon de Refuse

It's been quite a long time again. I got into the Salon show at Parkwood Gallery. One of my pieces won the Renoir prize, which is a gift certificate and a ribbon. I did not sell anything, but that's OK with me. A couple of lucky people did sell some work. Economical wise, I'm hoping things are looking up in this area. My new painting (someone is borrowing my camera) is a still life about Mr Fezziwig, and the night after the Christmas party. You know the Christmas Carol. I got this idea because my husband is an actor and last year he did a fastasic Mr. Fezziwig. I got an instant image of what I was going to paint. I think there is a little Mr. Fezziwig in all of us.

Where has all the time gone to

Holy cow, can't believe it's been this long since I've been on this. Finally got my camera back and with a little help, maybe I can get them on this time. So bare with me. I guess I should start back to the beginning. The first image is called Napa Table. The frame is painted on the canvas.

Boy it's been a long time. Just got my computer back, now all I need is my camera back. Finished 2 paintings, both still life, wow both with food. Didn't realise that before!! Will be starting another on tonight, again a still life. Not sure of the total subject matter now, but it's a work in progress for now. I have a couple of items for sure that I want in, but not finished. Well sorry no pics to load up, hopefully next time.

Well here goes nothing, my first time blogging. Wish me luck.
I'm an artist (oils) trying to get into this new land of technical stuff, new ways of communicating and trying to learn all of this in a short amount of time. I also thought this might be a good way to get more focused on my art as a whole. So hopefully I will be posting every other day or so, and showing what I'm working on and hoping for some general comments and feedback. Well that's it in a nut shell. I hope you will enjoy my work.
